About CHRIS SALTER
Hal Christopher Salter is the Founder and CEO of Allegro Multimedia. He took his idea from a napkin, designed and built a prototype, then went out and raised the money in a tough capital market to build Piano Wizard, which is now in the midst of a national launch. Allegro Multimedia is an industry leader in musical video game technology and products. Chris is a 601 IBI Graduate, and is now an Instructor. He will be teaching at Forum 706.
Chris learned music as an adult; he has a degree in Linguistics, and 2 degrees in Music, including a Master's degree in Music from UCLA. He has conducted extensive research abroad in Brazil comparing the way we learn language to the way we learn music, resulting in significant breakthroughs and insights that lead to the design of Piano Wizard.
For the last 5 years, Chris has been building Allegro Multimedia, learning to apply the principles of music creation and cooperation in business. Chris has come to know that nothing great can be done alone, and he has learned so much about building teams and conducting business in a creative cooperative fashion that adds value to the world without stepping on someone else. For Chris, as a creative person, to be able to look at business from that creative problem solving perspective has made it so surprisingly rewarding and fun.
Chris never learned music as a child, and when he decided to study it at college, it was a personal and spiritual decision, that was never expected to turn into a career or business. But because he was an adult, he questioned the system and ways that it was taught, and realized that the musical notation was more of a barrier in the beginning than a help; yet it was a tool that needed to be eventually mastered. The problem was there were too many “sacred cows” in music education at that point, and he began to think outside the box, and created this game to help get us all there. In the end, as Bach said, we just need to hit the right note at the right time. His video game helps everyone do just that.
Chris is just beginning. His goal is to launch companion products and make reading and playing music a birthright for all instead of a privilege for the few.
